Favourite Autumn Reds And Browns

This is a headband-sash I made for a friend lately.

I was itching to make something in a riot of fall reds and russets and caramels

and this was the outcome.

I was pretty happy with it

and it was well received -accompanied by a rusted orange lavender loveheart brooch, in a girly cotton pouch.

Fairytale Flower on etsy.

In my -inexcusable- neglect of this blog lately, I have also neglected to tell you about Fairytale Flower, the new shop I opened on etsy -exclusively with organza flower accessories.

Now both the new creations as well as my old favourites can all be housed together in their own little conservatory -and make room in OnePerfectDay for some exciting new arrivals.

I'd love it if you visited and gave me an opinion.

Umbrella Prints - Trimmings Competition 2012

Umbrella Prints, for those not in the know, is a textile house in South Australia run by Amy Prior and Carly Schwerdt, filled with delightful fabric of colours and design that you can easily fall in love with.

As it happens, Umbrella Prints has been running a Trimmings Competition  for a couple of years and it's now time for the Trimmings Competition 2012.

This is my Trimmings Pack with the wonderfully colourful Umbrella Print fabric -which, unfortunately, did not photograph that well in the intense May sun we've been having so you can't quite see how thoroughly delightful and bright and addictive it is in real life.

I've just completed my first project with the neon selections of the pack and I'm terribly excited about it.
I hope to have pictures of it tomorrow to post.

My Creative Space - Orange and Rose

These are my latest organza flowers.
A mix of rose and gold and orange organza which I was a bit doubtful of at first, but now it's won me over. I find it very feminine and chic.

I can imagine this in the impecably coiffed hair of a pin-up girl.

Lavender Loveheart Brooches

Maybe you've seen the making of these little hearts in a previous post, maybe not.
This is the finished product, modelled and shot and in the shop!

Silky to the touch, sweet-smelling, girlie, lavender-filled lovehearts that you can carry with you all day long, pinned to your top, jacket or even your bag .

The colours: dusty rose pink, bright red, mellow burgundy, rusty orange and caramel brown.

I'm a big fan of lavender as well as lavender sachets.
I think I was hooked when reading about  the long list of healing and therapeutic properties of the herb.

I've been meaning to make a special post about it for some time -and one of these days I will...

Until then, here's the skinny:
Lavender is well known for it's calming, soothing properties but it's actualy also a tonic and a stimulant and is used against exhaustion .

Anti-stress and anti-depressant, it relieves anxiety and can even help balance mood swings.

There's so many uses that the list seems endless......
......I'll have to make that post soon.

Tickle Me Tuesdays - Approaching Fall

I know that Autumn is officially well and truly underway, but around here we're still in the last throes of summer. Only now that the air is chilling slightly but gradualy can we begin to think of the approaching cooler weather.

These are the images that are putting me in the mood for the season:

1.This perfect depiction of Snow White by PalePreoccupation.

3.Aah! The Haute Couture issue by Paolo Roversi , September 2011 for Vogue Italia.
(via Abundance)

4.Another favourite photographer on etsy, TCapone and this perfect fallen leaf! I can't get over these colours and the crispness of the image.

5.A capelet in deep red burgundy.

My Creative Space -More Mother-Daughter Accessories

I've started a new batch of mother-daughter organza flowers:

You can see the bigger-smaller sizes here.

I'm so very happy with the outcome. I love the layers of colour and texture.

Now I have to decide on the centres.
And whether they will be corsages, headbands or sashes.....

My Creative Space - Mother-Daughter Accessories

This is what's on my work table today:

These are part of the mummy-daughter accessories I've started making.

This red mix is actualy quite striking.
(Unfortunately these pictures do not accurately capture the colours.)

The layers of organza, tulle and viscose include burgundy, flame, orange, hot pink, fuschia, neon pink and a dark rose.

They are quite large, about 5.5in/14cm for the mummy one and 4in/10cm for the daughter one.

Now they need some leaves and they'll be ready....

My Creative Space - Growing Flowers

On my worktable, waiting to be packed and sent off to their new homes, is this unlikely pair:

It's official, I'm addicted to making them.

And they keep getting bigger all the time. These are quite large, about 12cm/almost 5inches and I have plans for much bigger ones......

The colours are also evolving and I love to be asked to make colour combinations that are different to those I gravitate towards instinctively.

Like this red/orange mix that is a pure shock of colour and energy.
