Seamwork April 2016 Issue - Sewing With Intention

I took the plunge today and joined Seamwork*.

I've been following the issues as they come out for a while now and I finally decided that it's time to commit and subscribe.

Now all I have to do is choose which 2 patterns to start with!

*For those of you who don't already know, Seamwork is a monthly online sewing magazine full of great articles, techniques, creative ideas and general inspiration.  If you have a subscription -$6 per month- you also get to download 2 patterns a month that you can choose from the Seamwork pattern collection.

The Vintage Pattern Pledge 2016

I'm so happy that Marie and Kerry decided to keep the vintage pattern pledge going for 2016!

If you haven't seen/followed it before, the idea is that you join in and take a -public- pledge that will commit you to start sewing or sew more with vintage patterns - or even reproductions of vintage patterns.

This is exactly the kind of motivation and inspiration that I need to stop merely planning to make some of my beloved vintage sewing patterns and actually do it.

Last year was my first time following and I managed to make one of my vintage bag patterns and this 1970s turban.

This year I'm determined to sew through all of these vintage bag patterns , to make a hat and a pair of gloves from some great patterns I will be sharing with you soon and also to make some items from my Women's Institute Of Domestic Arts And  Sciences books.

-2.49 metres or just over 2.70 yards of extra large lace trim on white satin with leaf motif (by 20cm or 7.8 inches)

-27 cm or 10.5 inch by extra wide white lace (by 13cm or 5.10 inches)

-95 cm or 1 yard of large white cotton lace trim (by 2.7cm or 1 inch)

-83 cm or 32.5 inches of off white lace trim (by 1.5cm or 0.6 inches)

-two pieces of delicate white cotton lace trim:

one piece measures 1.47metres or 1.60 yards 

the other piece measures 1.07 metres or 1.17 yards.

The Notions Challenge

The Naughty Notions Challenge to be exact, has officialy begun.

The sequel to the Solids Only Tote Bag Challenge  (full list of entries here) that was held in November, this is the new challenge for January.


The short version is that you make a simple tote or clutch and then go crazy with the embellishing, with all and any sort of notions yopur heart desires.
Anyone at all can join in.
