More Vintage Goodness

As my vintage fashion fetish continues unabated, my vintage sewing book mania keeps raging right along with my vintage pattern obsession.

Here are some long-awaited volumes from the Woman's Institute Of Domestic Arts And Sciences written in the 1920s by the reknown Mary Brooks Picken

Just look at the fabulous 1920s ladies and the amazing fashion which, while vintage for us, was the very latest contemporary design!

They are a treasure trove of knowledge as far as both sewing and vintage fashion are concerned and pure inspiration.
Just in time for the vintage sewing pattern pledge too!

So far, I've only skimmed through them briefly but I'm totally smitten.

And now for some time to delve into them....

Buttercup Floral Bobby Pins

This yellow fabric is my latest flavour of the month. I just love it!

I love everything about it: the colour, the way it responds to flower making and the final result.

I've made some headbands with the same flowers here but I also love them as bobby pins.

Vintage Bag Patterns - Part 1

While my love for vintage patterns encompasses every kind of pattern, vintage accessory patterns are my biggest love. Whether they are hats, bags, gloves, scarves, belts, etc, irrespective of decade or style, I love them all.
I'll be sharing some of my vintage patterns here and I'm starting today with some of my vintage bag patterns.

1943 - Du Barry 5763

1968 - McCalls 9291

1963 - McCalls 6794

2001 - Vogue 7252 - Historical Purses

1940s? - Talon College Catch-All
Vogue accessories 7531

The only bag I've made from these so far is the Vogue 7531 boho bag which I love (I've shared it here) and I plan to remake it with various alterations -resizing, adding pockets and changing the handle somewhat.

But that's a tale for another day....

TP Menagerie

Have you seen the incredible toilet paper roll crafts out there? I'm continuously amazed at how versatile this recyclable little tube of cardboard can be and how resourceful crafters are!

I collect them maniacally on my Kids Crafts pinterest board and I've got loads of them that I want to try. They range from the simplest to the most sophisticated.

These are some of the creatures made, with the help of little hands, so far, and added to our expanding menagerie.

(I'm afraid I could't find the links to the penguin, but here are the links to the flying carp and the smirky bat.)

The others that were not available for the photo shoot will be corralled eventually and shared in another post.

Fragrant Lavender Parcels

Back in April, the tireless Zina of EfZin organized a Secret Bunny swap for Easter that I was glad to take part in.

My Secret Bunny turned out to be Athena from CraftCookLove and I received the most sweet-smelling handmade lavender soap. The revitalizing scent of lavender preceeded the soap and could be smelt even before I opened the package!

And I got a lovely butterfly card too...So pretty!

Sorry girls to be posting this so late but the parcel -while sent promptly- was misplaced and lost in courierland for what seems like forever and surfaced quite by accident long, long after it had been sent....

Vintage Pattern Pledge Update

So far I haven't done much as far as my vintage pattern pledge goes. But, in truth, I haven't had the time to delve into it the way I'd like to.
I have made a vintage Vogue bag which I love (I've shared it here) but not much else.
So I thought that it's about time I took out some of my own vintage patterns to get inspired by and also to share.

The patterns above are patterns I've bought from Amber's lovely shops ThePinkPolkaDot Button on ebay and PinkPolkaDotButton on etsy. I highly reccomend both for fabulous vintage patterns and friendly service.

Aphrodite

The amazingly talented Laura Okita has gone and done it again!
The photoshoot is titled Aphrodite and I'm sure you'll agree that Aphrodite herself would envy Ms Okita's beauty and grace.
Just look at those statuesque limbs and alabaster skin!

I was over the moon to see her wearing my FairytaleFlower Chrysanthemum Flower Headpiece which she also wore here.

Make sure you check out the whole fabulous shoot over at Laura's blog Paper Mothball Vintage.

Extra large ombre bridesmaids flowers in gold-ivory for Elisa.
The largest of these measures about 10cm across and is about that high as well.
