Hydrangea Floral Bag

Just a few days after posting this vintage 1940s hydrangea flower applique I saw this wonderful hydrangea bag by Cath Kidston.

Even the colours look like the colours used for the trio of flower appliques in my vintage Vogart applique set.
Aren't they wonderful?
The whole bag is so totally girly and perfect for spring!

Swiftly-Approaching-Fall Tote Bag

One of my big loves is making bags, even though it seems that I hardly make any any more...

I hardly ever seem to have the time that is needed to plan and then execute a bag.....
So I was thrilled to get to finish this one, just in time for the fastly approaching fall!

It's actually darker than the pictures suggest, making all the different colours blend in much more nicely than they do in the pictures.

And I'm thrilled that it's finished just in time to enter the Super Online -Community- Sewing Match over at Sew,Mama,Sew!

Blue Denim

OK, this is not a new bag.
It was made for this challenge a while back.
But it's a new picture and I really wanted to show it off......

I kept this one for myself and I wear it a lot when I don't need the giant oversized bag that fits everything.
It's quite practical.
Maybe next time I'll add a zip to close it instead of a magnetic snap.
Then again, maybe I won't.

Supergirly Clutch Purse - Project 2 - Umbrella Prints Trimming Competition

Here is my second project for the Umbrella Prints Trimmings Competition. (Here  is the first.)
It's a clutch in the supergirly pinks and reds of this trimmings pack.

I love the fabrics I had to work with.
Pinks and reds together are my latest addiction and the touch of white is just perfect.

The abstract flower circle with the leaves is basically my circle brooch turned flower. It's an idea I've been working on this past week and I'm very pleased with it.

I toyed with the idea of making it detachable, and I was very tempted, but I went for the sewed-on version in the end.

I have never made a lined clutch or pouch before and since they aren't the same as bags  I had a bit of trouble figuring it out....

I'm so thoroughly smitten with it that I think I'll keep this one for myself.

Now I have to go and finish project number three.

Denim Notions Bag - Take 2

Here are some better pictures of my entry for the Naughty Notions Bag Challlenge by Rikka of Ricochet and Away and Keren of Sew la Vie blogs.

This one I actually made for myself.
I don't make many bags for myself. I make about one a season. If it turns out the way  I wanted, I keep it. If it's not, I give it away and make another one. If that's a hit, I usually carry it around for about a year -at least.

That's why I embellished it with many of my stashed away notion keepsakes.

And that's why there are pockets just about everywhere -though I usually have more on a larger bag.
There's three deep pockets on the outside and three flat ones on the inside.

The back is left much plainer, though I couldn't resist some shabby vintage material scraps and a ribbon from my stash doubling as key-ring.
The flower is one of my black and white organza flower brooches and it's detachable.

And a couple of close ups.

All the challenge entries are here, where you can also vote for your favourite bag.

The Naughty Notions Bag

Yes, once more I find myself uploading the pictures of my bag challenge entry at the last minute -and vowing I will not do this again next time....

The good news is that, while,, literally finished at the last minute, it is exactly what I had imagined.

The pictures weren't the best -at the setting of the sun, it was no wonder
...but I hope you get the idea....

Most of these labels, buttons and various notions have a sentimental value and have been lurking in dark places for a project such as this.
For example, the little white daisy with the hanging beads adorned my mother's wedding dress....

I'll get some better pictures tomorrow, but for now, here is the front and below is the back of my entry.

Here is were you can see the rest of the bags in the challenge.

December Give-Away

Some time ago (all the way back here) I promised you a give-away of this bag:

But time slipped by -as only time can- and no more was heard of it....

Until now.
In the spirit of clearing old debts and getting ready for a  New Year and a clean slate, it's now officialy give-away time.

Fully reversible.
One side is a black natural linen with the added interest of a section that has been ribbed and a strip of the loveliest striped natural cotton in a muted olive green and white.
The other side is a sheer organza with a big opaque floral motif on it. It is backed with natural canvas.

If any of you remember, it is the perfect twin of this bag listed in the shop, with the only exception that it had a small imperfection.
(If you notice the bag on the left has a little gap in the seam on its right. That's where it escaped the thread.....This will be sewn together, but as any handsewn article can attest, it won't be totaly invisible......)

There is only one requirement for you to be in the draw, and that is to leave a comment telling me what you'd like to wear a bag like this with.

For extra entries you can do any of these:
(But don't forget to  leave a seperate entry telling me you did so, so that it can be counted as an extra entry)

1. Follow One PerfectDay blog (follow button is on the right hand side of the blog)
2. Heart OnePerfectDay shop on etsy
3. Tell me what your favourite item in OnePerfectDay etsy is.
5. Follow OnePerfectDay on Pinterest (button on top right hand side of blog).
6. Tweet about the give-away.
7.Share this give-away on facebook or blog about it.

The give-away is open to anyone, internationaly.
Open from 15-30 December 2011.
A winner will be announced on December 31 and your prize will be shipped in the New Year when the post office re-opens.
Please make sure there is a way for me to contact you (blogger profile, etsy shop, etc).
If I cannot contact the winner or if the winner fails to respond within a week there will be another draw.

Good Luck!

November Solids-Only Tote Challenge Entry

Yes, I will say it....better late than never....
My tote for the Solids Only Tote Challenge for the month of November is finished! And I managed to get a couple of -quite attrocious-  pictures, before the light disappeared, to prove it....

It's not exactly what I had in mind when I started, but I almost always let the bag take me where it will, whether it's sketched on paper or not.

A close-up of the appliqued leaves.

I'll get some new pictures as soon as I can.

But you get the idea....

Bag Entries for Purse Week

I finally made the deadline today for the bag contest going on over at A Lemon Squeezy Home.

This is the bag I entered today.

The front.

The back.

Some close-ups and details.

It's actually the second one I finished today because I ruined the first version of the bag -identical except for the floral fabric used.
The moral of the story is: don't try that new thing you've been meaning to when it's close to your deadline......

I'm very happy with this one except that I altered it's original rounded shape by adding some tucks down at the corners at the bottom and they make it look boxier than what I had in my sketch.

But I like boxy as much as I like rounded......so it's fine.

The large circle on the one side is in fact a pocket. It closes with a magnetic clasp and it's been my favourite pocket for a while now.
It holds quite a few things and pretty securely at that.

My other entry is this one:

They've been both uploaded in the Purse Week Group on Flickr.

Wish me luck!

Newest -Floral Organza- Bag

This is my newest bag.

It's fully reversible, made with some of my very favourite fabrics.

One side is a black linen with some lovely ribbed texture and some of my newest striped cotton fabric -a muted green and white I'm besotted with.

The other side is a a sheer organza with an enormous, opaque floral print on it that I've lined with my trusty plain natural canvas.

You can't really see this in any of the pictures but up close you can see the canvas under the sheer parts of the organza. Especially when you move.

As has been my custom lately, I've made two identical bags.

Unfortunately, one has a little flaw........
I wouldn't sell it in any condition other than perfect, so you can expect a give-away soon.
