Fairytale Flower Keyring with Burgundy Leaves

This caramel and lilac keyring/bagcharm is the one I currently have my keys on. It's the one I kept for myself from this batch and I just can't get enough of this specific colour combination. It really makes my day!

It's pretty big, I can tell you! It measures almost 12 cm and yet it weighs next to nothing!

That's because the petals themselves are extremely light, the fabric of the leaves is also light and there is no heavy centre to weigh it down. When I add beads to the centre -which I adore!- there is a bit of extra weight added to the keyring. Not that it's ever a real problem, as the weight is still negligable, but, the heavier the beading, the more weight added overall.

There were 2 other similar keyrings, one with red linen leaves and one with pink satin leaves and they have already found their new homes long since.

Flower Keyring with Red Linen Leaves

Handmade flower keyring in a jubilant mix of coral, red, lilac and caramel. 

You can see both the front and the back in the pictures above and below.

I mostly use synthetic webbing to attach the flower to the metalic split ring but this time I've opted for a cotton strip I specificaly sewed to tie in with the colours of the flower centre and leaves.

Fairytale Flower Keyrings

This was a bunch of flower keyrings I did with the lilac and caramel colour combination I got addicted to for a spell. (You can see the other lilac-caramel flowers here.)

I added some coral and red in a couple of these as well. Can you see it peeking out among the petals?

 There were a couple more than the three shown in the pictures but they're all gone now. I kept one for myself, as my old one was looking a bit the worse for wear and it was time to change it. The rest I gave away to friends.

So now it's time to make some new ones!

I can't wait to see what colour they turn out!

Purple & Brown Flower Keyring

Yep, another keyring.....

This time I took two different purples and brown and mixed them up together. The outcome is the flower you see above and below with a petal contrast that's more vivid than my usual flowers (with the notable exception of these), which I really like.

The flower is quite big but it's not heavy because the fabric weighs next to nothing to begin with.The beading in the centre is really the thing to watch when making these, as that's where any danger of making them weigh more lies.

Weight is always a concern when I'm making these flowers. I know that my keyring is already pretty heavy with all sorts of keys, so I don't want any extra weight on it. That's why I try to make these flower keyrings as light as possible.

But the airy nature of the fabric itself ensures that the resulting flower is very lightweight.

(The leaves -admitedly- may add some weight, depending on the type of fabric used. These are a fabulous, crisp, red linen which is a dream to sew and not too bulky.)

My cousin's keys are currently safely kept on this particular keyring as it has already gone to it's new home.

Rose Organza Flower Keyring

This was my handmade Christmas gift in this year's Secret Santa exchange organized by Zina.

A delicately rose organza and tulle flower keyring.

With a glossy  black bead centre and charcoal grey satin leaves.

(These flower keyrings are much hardier than they look and they last in pretty good condition for about a year.

You can wash them and iron them too if you like, to keep them looking fresh.)

Flower Keyring

I may have mentioned this before but these flower keyrings are my go-to present solution for female friends.

 I have discovered -to my utter surprise- that not all women like to wear flowers on their person....

And while I cannot fathom why, I'm glad that I haven't yet encountered a woman that does not want a flower on her keychain.

This particular keyring was made for a friend who appreciates a bold flower brooch on her lapel as well but that was covered in my last gift to her. This time it's time for a flower that will always be with her, wherever she goes.

The flower is a mixture of a myriad hues of brown, yellow and white while the leaves are made of two similar golden shades of shantung silk -one on each side.

Birthday Flower

A friend of mine had her birthday yesterday and I wanted to make her a gift.

I've made her flower earrings, a flower ring -or two- and a little flower brooch in the past, so I thought it was time for a flower keyring.

It really is an easy gift as even people who don't like wearing flowers on their person welcome a flower to carry around with their keys.

I loved making this one and I adore the polka dot cotton leaves.

 Did you notice that they are 3 different sized polka dot prints?

Bird Of Paradise

I've been making presents for friends and family lately and it's mostly been flower key-rings.

I love making them and they always seem to be warmly received which encourages me.

Plus I love seeing them on the recipient's keys when it's time for those keys to come out.....

This is the only one I managed to photograph before I gave it away.

It's a wild combination of the brightest, happiest colours that I could find, with some of my favourite golden stamens in the centre.

I usually add beads to the centre because I know they will last longer* but I just couldn't resist the stamens this time.

 The leaves are in one of my favourite shantung silk coppery-golds. It's positively luminous and never fails to put a smile on my face. Unfortunately, this was the last of it.....

I'm happy to say that, yes, it was warmly received.

 * these flower keyrings last in great condition for about a year and then start showing the wear....They can be washed and revived provided that their centres are beaded and they do not have metalic parts. I haven't as yet tried washing flowers with stamens.
